All About Eggnog

The custom of drinking eggnog during the holidays all started in early medieval Britain as a way to ring in the new year. Later, the drink became popular in the American colonies by the late 18th to early 19th century. Eggnog was especially popular during Christmastime because of its warming flavors, like cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and cloves, which embody the winter spirit.

With our Maola Eggnog, we’re proud to get it on store shelves as early as mid-October! Eggnog season does end in December.

Maola Eggnog is a rich and sweet dairy-based beverage traditionally drunk during the holidays. At its core, Maola Eggnog is an emulsion of milk, cream, sugar, and, of course, eggs. Many recipes also include nutmeg, cinnamon, or other spices, which are incredibly delicious this time of year.

Since Maola Eggnog is, at its core, an emulsion of milk, cream, sugar, and eggs, Maola Eggnog is an indulgent, extra-rich drink that tastes like a version of melted ice cream.

Yes! For up to six months, you can freeze non-alcoholic eggnog, either store-bought or homemade. However, spiked eggnog typically does not freeze well, as conventional freezers are generally not cold enough to freeze the alcohol. For the best results, freeze your Maola Eggnog in a container with about ½ to 1 inch of space to allow for expansion during freezing.

Traditionally, yes, eggnog is made from eggs. However, eggnog is also usually made with alcohol, which, when added to the eggnog, acts as a preservative and prevents the raw egg from developing any harmful bacteria.

Maola Eggnog does not contain raw eggs or alcohol. Instead, our delicious and rich Maola Eggnog is made from egg yolks cooked during the pasteurization process, so it’s safe to drink!
